“We travel, initially, to lose ourselves; and we travel, next to find ourselves. We
travel to open our hearts and eyes and learn more about the world than our
newspapers will accommodate. We travel to bring what little we can, in our
ignorance and knowledge, to those parts of the globe whose riches are
differently dispersed. And we travel, in essence, to become young fools again –
to slow time down and get taken in, and fall in love once more.”
― Pico Iyer

Where is the retreat held?
The retreat is held in a beautiful west coast on the lower part of the north island overlooking the Tasman Sea from the clifftops of Muriwai. Only a 45-minute drive from central Auckland, but you feel like you’re on the edge of the earth with its expansive views and nature walks.
What are the accommodations like?
Kula Muriwai offers breathtaking clifftop views of the sea surrounded by lush green hills. The retreat owners’ motto “Welcome Home” gives off such warm and inviting vibes, and they pride themselves in ensuring that every guest feels like they’re in a cozy, luxurious private home, a sanctuary for the senses.
Three upscale but homey lodges are the ultimate spot for rejuvenation and pampering. Relax and share heartfelt conversations by the fire in the spacious lounge or one of the cozy dens, or head out onto the patio with a cuppa to read by the outdoor fire-pit and enjoy a perfect sunset over the sea. The sauna, Jacuzzi, and dare-to-dive cold plunge might just be the ultimate trifecta for indulgent relaxation! Help yourself to healthy snacks and enjoy family-style meals around the dining table. And finally, tuck away for a night of restful sleep in the cozy rooms, each with it’s own charm and views that invite nature into your dreams. You’re in for a treat!
Sydney Extension
The optional Sydney Extension is an exciting urban adventure! We will be staying in The Hotel Challis, a boutique hotel conveniently located amid the buzz of cafes, restaurants and shopping in trendy Potts Point, perfect for food lovers and coffee aficionados. The Potts Point neighborhood is just a leisurely walk to Circular Quay and the city centre.
Being just a stone’s throw away from Circular Quay means you’re perfectly positioned to explore Sydney’s iconic attractions like the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. You can catch a ferry from Circular Quay to explore the many attractions around the harbour, or catch a train from any of the conveniently located stations throughout the CBD to explore further afield.
We will be guiding walking tours every day, with additional suggestions for what to do if you want to explore on your own. Whatever you chose to do, you can easily dive into the bustling city life, yet retreat back to the boutique comfort of the hotel for some relaxation and downtime. It’s ideal for those who want to experience the best of both worlds—urban exploration with a cozy, stylish base to return to.
Whether you’re planning to soak in the cultures, indulge in a shopping spree, or enjoy the culinary delights, this extension offers something for everyone.
Who can register for the retreat?
The retreat is open to women, men, and couples. We honor all spiritual beliefs and faith traditions in celebration of the many paths to Embracing the Heart.
Can I have a single room?
Certainly! Please see the registration page for single room options for both the Embracing the Heart Retreat, and for the Sydney Extension. A single room supplement is an additional $1500 on any of the published registration rates.
I want to share a room, but I don’t have a roommate.
As we register other participants, we often find others who also are looking for a roommate to share a double room and can possibly match you with another participant. Just be aware that the later you register, the less likely this option will be available, so we cannot guarantee a place in a shared room. Your initial registration will be at the single room rate, with the single room supplement fee charged with your last payment.
Can I sign up for the Sydney Extension Only?
No, unfortunately, this is offered as an add-on to your retreat experience, not as a stand-alone option. For those in Session 1 of the retreat, you have the option to travel on your own for 7 days, and then re-join us again for the Sydney Extension.
Does New Zealand require any special immunizations?
No additional shots are required beyond the routine vaccinations that most of us have gotten as children. Please consult your physician. New Zealand no longer requires passengers to provide proof of vaccination or a pre-departure test. We do ask that if you’re feeling unwell and test positive for COVID-19, please consider changing your travel plans.
Am I required to have health insurance?
Trip insurance including medical is STRONGLY recommended, which can be purchased at the time that you book your airline travel for a small additional fee. It will cover you for a wide range of unforeseen circumstances. We urge you not to book travel without insurance!

How do I make my own airline reservations?
Airfare is not included in your retreat registration fee. Travel experts advise that the best fares become available approximately three – six months before travel.
There are many travel sites that make booking easy depending on where you will be traveling from. Keep in mind your flight will need to arrive in Auckland allowing time to move through customs and connect with the shuttle bus pick up time to transfer to the retreat venue. Shuttle bus times will be provided in your email confirmation when you have pre-registered.
